It’s that time of year again. The Emmy’s are just around the
corner with the winner’s set to be announced on the 19th of August.
TV is going from strength to strength. With online viability and apps like
Netflix and Amazon Prime it has never been easier to view top quality content.
It is now becoming more of a hit to create top quality TV programming than to
make a film. Each episode in a series is turning into a mini movie. So with all
this top quality content, who is likely toreally come out on top in TV’s most prestigious awards?
Game Of Thrones
It has been a terrific season for all Thronies. We have seen
some major developments as the show has now surpassed George R.R Martin’s
novels. On average there has been an increase of five million viewers taking
average figuresup to 25 million. Surely one of the best shows of a generation which has
continued to encapsulate its audience.
Mr. Robot
Aired on Amazon Prime, Mr. Robot has caught onto a society
which is embroiled in technology and tipped it on its head. A hacker has taken
on the world and is beginning to face the consequences. Undoubtedly a huge hit
within a totally relatable audience. Renewed for a third season it looks to
continue being a hit.
The Americans
A great show which has been a leading series on FX. Although
the show is perhaps taking advantage of post 9/11 paranoia. The show
brilliantly latches onto the conspiracy theory that there were Russian sleeper
spies in the States during the Cold War, who at first are loyal but then begin
to fall in love with the American way of life.
Homeland
Another show which has perhaps taken advantage of post 9/11
paranoia. Things are slightly switched around this time. An American soldier of
war has been turned. The most devastating line from series one has now gone
onto season four. Brody continues to do battle along with Carrie, who still has
her mental health issues.
House Of Cards
Probably the show which put Netflix on the map. A fantastic
drama which has completely blow open the door on American politics. Francis
Underwood starts out as a politician just trying to seek revenge. But he soon
finds power and begins going for presidency. There is plenty of drama,
backstabbing and betrayal in this fantastic US drama.
Better Call Saul
One of Breaking Bad’s favourite characters did such a good
job he got his own show. Saul was one of the standout performers during
Breaking Bad and was loved by the audience. We see glimpses of when Saul was a ‘good
lawyer’ before moving on and becoming best buds with the Crystal Meth making
gang.
Downtown Abbey
The British drama follows the Crawley family and their
servants living in a great Georgian country house. Starting off seeing the titanic
falls, put’s the whole family and their estate in jeopardy. Amongst American’s it’s
been a great hit, getting a view into an old English lifestyle.
