Game Of Thrones

With Game Of Thrones airing this weekend anticipation levels are at an all-time high. A year after Jon Snow’s death we finally get to find out what happened. We are also now entering uncharted territory in terms source material. George Martin is yet to complete The Winds Of Winter but after discussions with writers of the show, they have their own ideas. So what can we expect?

Jon Snow

First and foremost, we will get an answer as to whether Jon Snow is actually dead. The Knights watchmen was last seen being stabbed repeatedly by his brothers in arms during a mutiny. Even little Ollie got in on the action. Snow has been one of the series most popular characters and few saw his death coming, this is one reason why there has been so much attention on the possibility of his revival. Kit Harrington was seen several times during the course of filming, however, he said he was ‘playing a corpse’ and judging by the trailer, that might be all he is. Ian McShane said that his character would be bringing ‘somebody’ back to life, but we know from the books it’s most likely to be Lady Stoneheart, aka Catelyn Stark

Lannisters

Cersei Lannister will be reunited with Jamie as he returns from Dorne. Unfortunately, however, she will most likely be on the war-path as the King slayer comes back carrying Marcella’s body. Cersei will also still be reeling from her walk of shame, as she is still battling against the High Sparrow. From the looks of trailers we can safely say that Jamie has no problem spilling blood on the Sept Of Baleor. The promise for series six has been big battles, and at one point Jamie is seen riding through what looks like a Lannister war camp.

With regards to Tyrion, he seems to be the character who can escape death the most. The dwarf has survived trial by combat twice and gone through two wars without dying. The most he has suffered is a slash across the face. But the ‘half man’ remains in Meereen, where he has a fair bit to deal with. Tyrion must take care of the Sons Of The Harpy, Daenerys dragons and look after the city. Quite a job.

Starks

Season six will also see the return of young Bran Stark. It is quite incredible to see how much he has aged during the course of the GOT run. But by the looks of things Bran has been training with three eyed raven and has new found abilities. Last we saw him, he was with the children of the forest and he was connected with the Weirwood. We know that by doing this Bran can have visions of the past, present and future. One scene very specifically depicts him next to the King White Walker, where he is clearly standing.

For the other remaining Starks, nobody knows what is happening to Rickon. We haven’t even seen him in the trailers. But for the two Stark girls it looks to be an interesting season. Further clips of the season has seen Arya learn to fight blind as she continues her training as one of the Faceless men. Sansa on the other hand, now looks like a woman hardened by the brutality she has received and is on the run with Theon/Reek. Some of the promo pictures clearly see her running through the harsh terrain of the north, but then also proudly depicting her house sigil (Direwolf) in another. I feel like it could be make or break for Sansa this season.

Targaryons

Daenarys is still the last one. Everything seemed to be going well for the Mother Of Dragons, she had an army at her back, a city to rule and three dragons at the helm. But problems were caused by the Sons Of The Harpy and then she was captured by the Dothraki. We see her walking with the rest of the slaves and then stripped off by Khal Jhaqo. No doubt she is in a bit of trouble. However, she seems fairly safe, as it would be largely pointless killing off a character of such importance. No doubt her dragon Drogon will come to her rescue once more.

There are other key plots which will come into fruition, the fate of the Tyrrells will be decided by how effective Jamie is and the result of the Boltons depends on what happens with Sansa. But there is no doubt that it will be one of the best season yet.

So there we have it. Considering the first book was released in 1996, it is astonishing to think of what has happened since. We have a Game Of Thrones Casino game, PlayStation game and not to mention the countless apps there are available.
