Game Of Thrones: The Door

Beware this review does have spoilers! We are now almost at the midway point for GOT and things are just about beginning to lift off. Little Rickon Stark’s appearance had the feel of cameo last week after so long out of the game, but finally it appears world events are about to take place, shaping into what will be the new Westeros.

Stark’s

How fantastic was it to see Sansa and Jon reunited? I am sure in every season so far, at least one of the Stark’s has been told to venture North to Castle Black and to Jon, but something always seems to happen. Yet the reunion between the two was brilliant. However, Sansa does talk of the way she ‘treated’ Jon, yet funnily enough this never comes across in the TV programmes, but for book readers it will all make sense. With some of the Stark’s reunited it will be fascinating to see what happens. Sansa has already spoke of her desire to win back the North and despite Jon being ‘tired’ of fighting, with the youngest Stark in harm’s way it remains to be seen just how long that will last. The focus on Jon and Sansa was worthwhile, as you felt throwing Arya's training in the mix would have diluted the importance of their reunion. It was also a shame to see Osha die quite so easily, she has been a worthwhile character and it was disappointing to see her go out with any sort of meaning. Also is there a bit of chemistry between Tormund and Brienne? That would be a romance worth watching!

Arryn’s/ Baelish

Lord Baelish is thrown in with the Arryn’s this time, but really he is involved with all the families. He has been the most scheming character in the whole show, because of his reasoning being for personal gain, Lord Varys will always top him in terms of popularity. But it looks like Little Finger will be behind another war, as he first stops little Robin from having more fun with the Moon Door, before agreeing to help his cousin claim back Winterfell.

Lannisters/Tyrells

Watching Cersei, sometimes I wonder if she would actually prefer to have the evil little Joffrey back. She seems angry at the idea that Tommen hasn’t been marching around having people’s heads cut off. It also feels like Cersei has finally been put in her place, the queen mother has virtually none of the power she formerly had when Joffrey was king. Having said that, because of Cersei, it looks like finally we will see an end to the High Sparrow. The man with no shoes always seems so nice when talking to his prisoners, but yet he is always after blood and has somehow gained enough power to challenge the throne. But with Margaery set to do the walk of atonement it looks like the Tyrells are set to do some sparrow bashing and rescue the queen.

Targaryen

Daenerys has been in a spot of bother this season, but you have never really feared for her safety. The Mother of Dragons went another level up this time around, setting alight Khal Moro and his cronies, before walking out of the flames in the nude once more and having the Dothraki bow to her. It was a flash back to season one really. However, an army of horse riders will go a long way into her quest to claim back Westeros and it is great to see Dany back to her best and growing more powerful. With Emilia Clark who plays Daenerys, going nude again it was brilliant to see her keep an unfaltering pokerface, as Clark had stated her desire not to do more topless scenes.

Highlights

The Mother of Dragons rules the Dothraki once more!

Sansa and Jon are reunited, the first good thing to happen to the Starks since season one!
